As much as I like “Der Monster Klub/Grave Puncher: The Movie!”, the BG art in them is not my favorite. I thought these were interesting, though, to give you an idea of different versions things go through:
The first version of this BG was designed by either Andrew DeLange or Vance Caines (I forget who drew this one) and painted by me.
The second version has been made cooler and more Howard-y by our art director, Otto Tang. You can tell Otto’s been there by the cat and duck imagery.
More videogames and bright lit up thingies I painted for “Weinerman Up”. My favorite things to paint!
My favorite thing about painting “Weinerman Up” was Greg’s Game hole. This was the first time we got to really flesh it out and go nuts with tons of crazy arcade games. My favorite thing to paint is weird, bright, neon light sources (check Mr. Driscoll’s secret lab in “Dawn of the Driscoll”), so this was a blast!
If someone asked me which episode of Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja was the most difficult to paint, it was definitely “Weinerman Up.” I had already watched the animatic and was counting down the weeks and days until this one came up, knowing it was going to be a huge undertaking. We had to paint countless buildings with which to populate downtown Norrisville, and paint many of them in both a clean version and a “destroyed” version, so the animators could pull off Jack Hammer’s rampage. It was a ton of work, but it’s also one my favorite episodes.
Here’s an example of a BG I painted for it, before and after Jack Hammer smashes through.
Here are a couple BGs I painted from Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja episode “Nukid On The Block”. The chili vat scene was definitely my favorite to paint for this episode.
You may have seen the Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja holiday special, “Silent Punch, Deadly Punch” when it aired on Dec. 3rd. Some of my favorite BGs to paint on the series so far were these snowy forest BGs for this episode.
If you haven’t seen it, you can stream it for FREE on Disney XD’s site right now!
Some BGs I painted for RC9GN episode “Monster Drill” The first one I painted the robo-mantis control console only - I believe the talented Pam Tilikete painted Viceroy’s lab behind it.
